UU Invests at an early stage with the intention of selling its holding when the company has validated its technology and market and has attracted interest among other investors or companies wanting to acquire the business. Alternatively, UU Invest sells its holding if the company is listed on a stock exchange. Historically, twelve companies in the portfolio have made so-called initial public offerings (IPOs). These companies currently have a total value of approximately SEK 40 billion.

Investor

UU Invest AB is an early investor and we are happy to collaborate with other investors and co-financiers who, like us, invest in research with high innovation and growth potential. Our commitment is long-term and extends in most cases from registration of the company to 5–15 years into the future. Together with the research team, we lay the foundation for the company in the form of start-up capital, auditing, knowledge and networking. And in every investment we make, Uppsala University’s brand adds an extra stamp of quality.

The work behind our investments

The research ideas presented to us go through several reviews before we assess whether there is a good foundation for development of the companies.

When we meet the researchers we have often worked together with Uppsala University’s advisory body, UU innovation. With the help of experienced business and patent advisers, problems and opportunities are worked through, and help with market and verification research has been made available.

Through our subsidiary, Projekt AB, the ideas can also undergo a pre-incubation. There, we test and analyze the market possibilities and obstacles of the intended offering before a company is formed.

The basis for successful business

Seed capital

UU Invest AB is an early investor that offers pre-seed and seed capital that makes it possible for researchers and entrepreneurs to further develop their research so that it can directly benefit society. With our early support, we contribute to the company’s efforts to build the right business model, create a team with important skills and test their idea on the market.

Long-term commitment

We invest long-term to give companies time to grow slowly, to develop their business and to build teams that can take cutting-edge expertise and technology further. Our involvement in the companies extends from the first investment to 5-15 years beyond.

Competence

UU Invest AB has extensive experience in evaluating business ideas and contributing expertise where we see ideas and research that society can gain from. We always plan for long-term ownership and are happy to work with other investors.

Wide network

UU Invest AB has contacts with, and collaborates with, other investor networks and investment companies which, just like us, have set their sights on contributing to the work of taking research further and developing new sustainable solutions, new technology and new methods.

Invest in the benefits to society

Uppsala University has a broad research span. This also reflects in our investments that highlight innovative solutions from the fields of technology, life science, humanities and social sciences. Currently we have more than 40 active companies and in the past UU Invest AB has invested in over 100 companies.

Did you know that all our profits are reinvested in other research projects? In this way, your success contributes to more researchers being able to develop their ideas.
