The journey involves advanced interdisciplinary development and a sustainable, efficient electrode with the potential to make green hydrogen production more cost-effective. Now, Oscar Verho and his research network receive additional support in their development efforts as one of three selected projects within VentureChallenge. An opportunity believed by Oscar and his team to significantly expedite the project.<\/p>\n<p>Producing hydrogen from water, compared to using fossil fuels, is not only environmentally friendly but more sustainable. These qualities, according to Oscar Verho, a university lecturer at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Uppsala University, and CEO of the newly established company HyEnGen, are expected to significantly increase interest in hydrogen as an energy source.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Interdisciplinary collaboration boosts the work<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In a short time, Oscar and his research network have successfully developed an electrode deemed good enough for the efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective role in future green hydrogen production. For several years, he has collaborated in development with other researchers such as Professor Bj\u00f6rn \u00c5kermark and Dr. Biswanath Das from the Department of Organic Chemistry, Stockholm University, and Professor Joydeep Dutta from the Department of Materials and Nano Physics, KTH. Along with our expertise in developing molecules, the work has progressed quickly. Catalyst development is our focus, and we already assess that we have a good and sustainable electrode with a long lifespan, making it possible to extract hydrogen from water more cost-effectively. With a high-quality electrode in place, the next step for Oscar and the team is to take it further into a clear cell, which is also the focus of HyEnGen&#8217;s ongoing work and offering to the market.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Increased interest in green hydrogen on the horizon<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;The cell itself is small, but they can be connected in series with several similar ones, thus allowing us to scale up the method and offer larger systems. Today, it is mainly the steel and chemical industries that use hydrogen, but there is also a growing demand in the transport sector. With a solution that offers cost-effective and sustainable production of green hydrogen, we believe that interest in hydrogen as an energy source will increase.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>VentureChallenge \u2013 an opportunity to accelerate work<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Being one of the three teams selected for the VentureChallenge development program means a lot to Oscar and his team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both receiving financial support and assistance in building the company mean a lot. Uppsala University Invest&#8217;s work is co-creative and is precisely the support we need now. VentureChallenge provides us with a great opportunity to accelerate our work and gives us access to knowledge throughout the cluster around Uppsala University Invest and UU Innovation. It means a lot in our work going forward.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Strong drive to solve problems<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The drive to take research further for the benefit of society has always been significant for Oscar. He works broadly to solve challenging questions in medicinal development, fuel development, and pure chemistry research. Innovations are needed, and Oscar wants to contribute by finding new solutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want my research to benefit society. I have invested a lot of my own time in the lab and work to organize and lead research, wanting what I do during the day to be useful. I am reluctant to wait for someone else to do it first but gladly do it myself. I actively seek ways for my research to truly benefit society, and here, I believe trying to bring the research to the market is a very effective and direct path. And, of course, it&#8217;s always extra rewarding when you can utilize the different special skills you have acquired over time.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Debut in the role of CEO<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Collaborating with Uppsala University Invest is something Oscar looks forward to, especially the opportunity to learn more about running a company, which he describes as occasionally a completely new world where he has learned new things every day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the first company I am the CEO of. It is exciting and challenging. I look forward to the collaboration and driving the new company HyEnGen forward with Uppsala University Invest as a partner. We have previously participated in Stings Deeptech program.
